Deprivation is NOT the Key to Wellness
Quality is the key element in a lifestyle of wellness.
Diets = DEPRIVATION!
You don’t eat this and you don’t eat that and there is nothing good to replace the loss so, you starve and suffer. You wrestle with cravings and feel as if you are going to waste away in order to achieve your goal of a lifestyle of wellness.
But I have some good news for you today. Deprivation is NOT the key to wellness. Want to know what is? I’ll tell you now.
Yes, you read that correctly. The answer to a lifestyle of wellness is quality.
I grew up in the south and as wellness became an active pursuit in my life, I recall people saying things like, “My Great Grandpa ate fried eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits with butter and jam every morning. He lived to be 98 and never had any health problems.” It frustrated the stuffing out of me, as I suffered under a deprivation mentality. It took me a while but I figured out why this was the case.
Great Grandpa ate quality food.
Those eggs came from the hens out back. You know, the ones running around all over the place. That bacon and sausage came from pigs and cows that had lived their lives roaming freely in the pastures. Neither the chicken nor the pig had ever been injected with antibiotics and hormones. They hadn’t been fed unnatural, synthetic, enhanced feed. They hadn’t been locked away in over-crowded pens. They lived happy, healthy lives.
And what about those biscuits slathered in butter? The grain was grown in the fields nearby. It had never been sprayed with herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. It hadn’t been fertilized with a synthetic. It had not been irradiated and processed under high heat. It had been grown from seed harvested for generations in soil prepared naturally; harvested gently and prepared the same way. And the butter, well that came from the fresh cream provided by the free range, pastured cows or goats. It hadn’t been pasteurized, homogenized, dyed, enriched and injected with synthetic cultures. It was real.
On top of all that, Great Grandpa worked his buns off in manual labor from sunrise to sunset. He didn’t sit at a computer all day after eating that breakfast, and all the while stuffing his face every few hours with more rich foods.
The bottom-line and the secret of his longevity was simple. Quality food and a quality lifestyle, those were the elements in his lifestyle of wellness.
So when I talk about nutritional wellness, yes, I talk about change. I’ll tell you not to eat McDonald’s burgers or Pizza Hut pizza. I’ll tell you to ditch the white stuff and leave the milk at the grocery store. Why? Not because milk itself will harm you. Not because you can’t enjoy pizza in good health. My reason is because those are not QUALITY products. They have been refined, enhanced, fortified, pasteurized, homogenized, shot up and engineered beyond recognition and with nothing left intact but addiction-forming elements that simply demand you eat more. There is no nutrition left and your modern lifestyle will do little more than plaster these foods to your hips, waist and thighs while clogging your arteries, leading you to diabetes, forming cancer cells and slowly snuffing out the quality of your life. They simply have no room in a lifestyle of wellness.
Authentic nutrition is not about living without the foods you love.
It is about learning how to enjoy them in quality form. Yes, I’m saying it…you can have pizza. I just need to teach you how to use quality ingredients and traditional methods. You can have a burger – with quality ingredients. You can have birthday cake – not the whole thing -by using quality ingredients.
The trick to it all is understanding quality!
Once you understand quality, the rest is simple. Learning and making the other changes, such as when you eat your carbs during the day, portion sizes and frequency of consumption, become so much easier. And the entire journey to a lifestyle of wellness becomes so much more attainable and enjoyable.
Quality…it is the key element in a lifestyle of wellness.
