Sheer madness, isn’t it? But it’s true. We all wait for love to happen to us, not realizing that it’s in our power to make it happen and NOW.
Here are a couple of ways you can start to love yourself (more in another post):
- Include in your schedule a few minutes each day to recall and affirm the things you like about yourself. Sounds difficult? Not if you make a list and keep adding to it – put it someplace you can read it. Make a note (add to the previous list), each time someone says something genuinely nice about you.
- Be aware of critical self talk. We often believe that we are unworthy or defective. This is because of the messages that have come to us directly or indirectly from people we looked up to when we were young. We continue to play these messages to ourselves. The beginning of loving yourself is to ‘talk back’ to that critical voice in your head with a new message. New message? Yes, these are called affirmations. Messages like “I am kind, compassionate and loving”.
No amount of flowers, or chocolates, or love songs from another can equal the joy the you’ll get when you learn to love and cherish yourself. So if you feel like surrounding yourself with flowers – go pluck them or buy them. If you feel like a good meal, treat yourself to one…and if you need a love song – sing one to yourself or play one. Don’t wait to be loved ….Don’t wait to be happy……Make your own happiness – other people are too busy trying to make theirs.
