In September 2024, I chose ‘intentional decluttering‘ as my theme, flowing out of my Word of The Year – intentional.
Dear Self – September 2024
Dear Self
Here’s something that you truly found true in September. Clutter isn’t just the physical stuff—like old clothes or random knickknacks—it can also be emotional, spiritual, and mental, blocking what truly matters to me.
Sometimes, you’ve struggled to focus because your mind is stuck on a comment from someone or worrying about something out of your control. You’ve wasted time dwelling on past mistakes or holding onto anger over small grievances. These negative thoughts—regret, frustration, anxiety, and resentment—drain your energy and keep you from living with intention. Mental clutter doesn’t just fade away on its own; it only clears when you confront it directly.
As you reflect on the subtle changes made this month, you can see how they’ve created space for growth. Whether it’s dedicating more time to self-care, spending extra moments with loved ones, or seeking stillness, these shifts are reminders you are growing.
Changes in mindset, like feeling more gratitude, seeing things from a new perspective, or finding resilience in the face of challenges, are bringing you closer to clarity and purpose.
Learning to embrace growth as a process—one that requires patience, like tending to a garden. Just as a garden needs time and care to flourish, so does your inner development.

You’ve been able to build deeper connections, and appreciate the slow, steady unfolding of your potential. Every step forward, no matter how small, is bringing you closer to becoming the person you are.
Letting go of outdated dreams has opened you to new possibilities that align with who you are now. This shift has brought clarity and helped you focus on what truly matters to you now.
As for the physical decluttering, you did some – but it’s an ongoing exercise. Keeping one half day each week for decluttering will certainly help. 🙂
Keep keeping on!
Love,
Me
My Four Words for September 2024
I’ve been following this practice, which I picked up from Sarah E Westfall for the last few months. Here’s what she says about the practice : The practice is simple: Choose four words that encapsulate the month. No explanation needed. No judgment. You can write your words here or tell a friend or jot them in a journal. The words are not magic. But I hope their smallness gives way to substance, as we reflect and remember the granular details of our lives and mark these moments together.

I’ve covered the fact that I reflected and saw growth in myself during the month. I’m grateful for all the online ‘mentors’ I’ve been inspired by. More about them and the word ‘trust’ in another post.
I hope your month was good too. Do share what you learned or experienced during September.

Your posts always resonate with me. Maybe because we both are Leo. Just kidding! I have started the practice of consciously decluttering my mind. These days, I try to read a lot of spiritual books on meditation and it is helping me. However, often negative thoughts keep coming back. I know, I have a long way to go. Nevertheless, even a small progress is worth celebrating. Thanks dear for this beautiful post.
Ha ha..likewise, my friend. Let’s pretend it’s the Leo thing!
Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad we are on a similar journey. Good intentions and patience will help us reach our goal.
I saw you share your Four Words for August on IG, I think, and instantly adopted the practice. I write them down on the last day of the month in my daily memory keeping journal. As for mental clutter, it’s probably harder to get rid of it than physical clutter!!
Isn’t it a great practice? I find it really helpful.
You’re right about the mental clutter! 😉
Decluttering is essential, whether it’s mental or physical. Although I’m trying to declutter, I haven’t been doing a good job. I’m making an effort to find 10 minutes a day to declutter. Journaling helps with mental decluttering. September was a blur for me.
Wish you a peaceful and productive October, Corinne.
Trying to work on both simultaneously is the best way to go, I think. Your idea of 10 minutes a day is such a good idea. I’m going to adopt this.
Thank you, Vini. May you have a meaningful October!
The decluttering never seems to end!! Though I have managed to get the physical environment decluttered, (after years of working on it), the other areas are still a muddle. Sometimes I just don’t know where to start. I keepsearching for that end of the string in a jumble of knots to unravel the whole mess. But as you say, it’s a process, a journey and one day I will get to a place which is comfortable,if not perfect.
I know! I have loads to do with the physical stuff. My solace is that at least we’ve started the process of decluttering the other areas of life. Hugs.
We have been decluttering physically, mentally and emotionally since September. I’m grateful shifting homes made the process non-negotiable.
It feels so liberating and freeing to make space and create empty spaces. Yet, we have a long way to go.
I had also started this practise of clearing my online clutter. Deleting atleast 10 photos a day, since I have plenty. I shall re-start again today, thanks to your post. I make sure I delete my emails regularly. Need to empty social media inboxes too. Phew!
Have a great festive season ahead, and more power to the decluttering process that has to be an every day practise. Amen to that for all of us. 🙂
We had something like that when we closed down our Mumbai home, but miles to go.
Yes, every day is the key. Doing something small each day adds up!
