Accepting Grace #MondayMusings #1000Speak

Somedays life is hard.
Somedays I’m filled with regret.
I can’t forget those I’ve hurt.
The people I’ve walked all over.
The ones I’ve taken for granted.

Most of all
It’s hard not to regret
The times I’ve been unkind to
The person that matters the most –
Me.
Yes, I’ve not cherished myself
Like I’m supposed to.
Not accepted the person
I am.
Taken myself for granted.
Put the wrong people first
Allowed myself to be taken for granted
Not forgiven myself for wronging others.

When I am this way
There’s no place for grace.
No place for the light to
Come through the brokenness.
I resist grace.
I fight it.
I want to wallow in self-pity
I want to be unkind to myself.

Today is not one of those days
Today is a day for accepting grace
For knowing I’ve been forgiven
For letting the past go
For allowing the light in.
Today is for forgiving
even as I’ve been forgiven

“If we are not willing to see and accept those events in which we have been the source of others’ suffering, then we cannot truly know ourselves or the grace by which we live.” – Gregg Krech, Naikan: Gratitude, Grace, and the Japanese Art of Self-Reflection

  1. It’s hard to balance between caring for others and caring for yourself but it should be done for a balanced and harmonious existence

  2. Pingback: Life Begins at 35- Really!!!
  3. Such beautiful words Corinne.. thought provoking.
Today is for forgiving, even as I’ve been forgiven..
    Well expressed.

  4. A beautifully worded gentle reminder that while we can be hurt and hurt others, we can also forgive them and forgive ourselves. Wonderful.

  5. Pingback: time…
  6. Your recognition of considering yourself first before others comes at a pertinent time. I had decided to put other’s needs before my own when I lunch with my ailing husband and our aging friend. I’ll consider myself as well.

  7. That’s beautifully said and gives a lot to ponder on. I liked the thought of forgiving self. Usually we are too critical of ourselves and indulge in a lot of pity parties in the head.

  8. I’ve often wondered how it was easier for me to forgive others than to forgive myself. You captured that perfectily today Corinne. Something for me to think about.

  9. So many of us seem to take ourselves out of the loop when it comes to matters of acceptance, compassion and nurturing. I think #1000speak is causing a ripple effect in many of our lives. Love it 🙂

  10. Loved each and every word! It’s a beautiful poem portraying what we all go through at some stage or the other of life. Well expressed!

  11. Well said, Corrine. BEfore we can forgive and accept anyone else, we have to do so for ourselves.

  12. So true Corinne…It’s so important to be kind and accepting to our own selves..Until that happens we can’t truly be happy and content..

  13. This is lovely. I was just talking to somebody else earlier this morning about accepting compromise with grace rather than with resentment. A very powerful message.

  14. As i read the last para, and especially the line, which says, “Today is a day for accepting grace, for knowing I’ve been forgiven …”, i could feel that positive energy coming in. The tightened, nerves, were loosened.. Wow.

Power of writing.. amazing isn’t it?
