When doing the ‘my ideal day‘ exercise as part of my work on finding my Word of the Year for 2024.
Goldilocks certainly had a fix on getting things right. With the porridge – too hot, too cold, just right. With the mattress – too hard, too soft, just right. She had figured out what the ideal was!
In her fabulous workbook, Find Your Word, Susannah Conway, suggests that we mindfully ask ourselves these questions :
- What do I need more of?
- What do I need less of?
As Susannah says, ‘an ideal day isn’t about jetting off to somewhere tropical – it’s simply a day that feels GOOD. ‘ It’s about how we want our days to feel in the year ahead.
I want to live intentionally in 2024. A familiarity with my own intentions becomes the measure for everything. It provides the basis for all choices and commitments I make. I need to ask these three questions when I’m making a choice.
- Increase – does it add value?
- Improve – does it improve quality?
- Impact – does it have consequence on my list of intentions?
What Do I Need More Of / What Do I Need Less Of?
More | Less |

I am still working on my ideal day in 2024. It always leads me to find my Word of The Year. Stay tuned.
PS: My ideal day DOES NOT include porridge!
This is Day 64 of My 66-day Journey of Healing Through Writing and Sharing.

Wow I love it! Goldilocks – just right. Everything in moderation. Who knew Goldilocks and Confucius had something in common?!
This has been my life philosophy. I don’t always succeed, especially when it comes to eating sweets (yeah I have a hopelessly sweet tooth!), but in most other things, I feel I’m moderate. Just right, as Goldi would say.
Have a merry and moderate new year, Corinne!
Ah! I hadn’t seen the connection – but it’s true.
Is there really such a thing as too many sweets? 😉
Have a wonderful year ahead, AJ.
