Beginning January Rooted and Grounded

My theme for January is Grounded.

Slow Mornings and Daily Rituals

The morning is peaceful; the sun hasn’t risen yet. Washed and dressed, I sit quietly, a candle burning and sipping a cup of tea, letting myself ease into the day instead of rushing to meet it. The house is quiet, and time seems to slow down. I want to start my day mindfully, with no frantic rushing around!

I start by doing a breathing exerercise. Then start slowly reading my affirmation for the day, savoring every word. I copy it into my bullet journal. Then I set 3 intentions for the day and jot down a to-do list. Small and doable. I remind myself that life is more than just chores and schedules.

I open my notebook for Morning Pages. I just write whatever comes to mind, no edits or anything, just being real. As I write in this quiet house, my mind settles. Some prompt based journaling follows. I feel grounded and peaceful, ready to face the day.

Grounded In January

My Intention for January:
I begin the year in faith and steadiness, choosing presence over urgency and laying down roots before reaching outward.

As January progresses, these early-morning rituals help me live that intention instead of just naming it.

Only after this inner work do I turn to the outer work of the day. Walking and feeding Lucky. Having a cup of coffee with José. Preparing breakfast. A good start to the day makes everything else flow more easily.

I’m learning that my daily routines are small but significant.. I see the truth in Mike Murdock’s words, “The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.” The first hour of my day affects everything that follows. I can see how being faithful to this will set the tone for the entire year.

Beginning January Rooted and Grounded

January’s theme is grounded, and these mornings are how I practice it. They teach me that being mindful makes even ordinary days feel holy. No big changes are necessary, I just need to start small and stay focused on the basics. Living into my word of the year, rooted, happens one calm morning at a time.

As you’re reading this, I invite you to think about your daily routine—what tiny ritual helps you relax, find yourself, and feel grounded? Do share.
