Rooted : My Word of the Year and Intentions for 2026

A new year. A new word of the year. I start the process of choosing one in December. The phrase that came to me then was ‘open to receive’. About two weeks later I got the second edition of Cosy Quirky’s (Ankita) The Travelling Souls Mail Club envelope. In it, she had included a little puzzle with words and suggested that the first three words spotted might be suggestions for 2026. The words that ‘came’ to me were : imagination, power and inner work (the last two I spotted together). On a whim I put these three words into ChatGpt and asked for one word! The word I got was ‘rooted’. I’ve mulled over for so many days, done my ‘finding my word’ practice and stuck to ‘rooted’.

Why Rooted?

Rooted is the right word for me because I feel the need for steadiness and for going deeper. I want my faith, love, and practices to help me gain more strength and ground me. I want to focus on what’s important, such as my faith, relationships, and creative pursuits, and not worry about outcomes. It means not rushing, and understanding that genuine progress takes time and often starts unseen.

Last evening I sat down to do the first of 4 monthly rituals Ankita had suggested in the beautiful ritual cards she sent. These were meant to be done in December, but I decided to start in January. Imagine my surprise the ritual card started with the affirmation: Even when life feels wobbly, my roots hold steady‘. A confirmation of my choice of word. How beautifully the Universe conspires!

Rooted and My Mantra and Intentions

This year, I’ve created a mantra for my word of the year and chosen 3 intentions for 2026. I turned them into little cards that I’m using bookmarks in my Bullet Journal.

More about how I plan to be rooted in 2026 in my next post where I share my theme for January.

Would love to know what your word for 2026, if you have such a practice. In any case, have a blessed and brilliant year ahead!
