Regrets?

Seventeen Again

“Don’t buy me any clothes.” he said vehemently.
“Why ever not?” she asked.
“Well, they say when you do that, the relationship ends.” he answered.
“Nonsense,” she replied and proceeded to buy him some trendy clothes.
He seemed to love them. She noticed he wore them quite often.
A month later, she realized he had been cheating on her with several women.
She broke up with him.
“Do you have any regrets about your relationship,” her friend asked.
“Oh, yes. I do have one big regret,” she answered. “I should have bought him clothes as soon as we started dating!”

This is my tongue-in-cheek take on The Writer’s Post Thursday Prompt hosted by Debbie Doglady. Her prompt: Regrets.

  1. Hi Corinne,

Good to see you back here after long, and I hope your challenge went off well too 🙂

Ah…Debbie seems to have started this…nice one on regrets…you got this one for sure 🙂

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. Yes, Harleena, the challenge was great because I connected with so many lovely bloggers. But I did miss this space. I’m not sure if Debbie meant us to be serious, but I couldn’t resist being naughty here! I hope all is well with you.

  2. Hahaha! Good one, Corinne. I always buy hubby’s clothes, (I swear he’s colour blind!), and we’ve been married 40 years, so, hopefully it’s not true. 😉 Thanks for joining the hop. Cheers!

  3. That was a naughty one, Corinne! Ah, I was wondering if it was trueeeee!!! And slightly petrified too. 😛 😛 But Debbie’s comment was a life saver. 🙂

  4. So that’s what went wrong! I’ve always wondered. Just kidding. I hate buying clothes even for myself. Great take on the prompt.

  5. What an ungrateful man, letting a woman dress him up and finding another to undress him. Tsk tsk.

  6. Never heard of that. Is that true? Still, if that happened to me, I would seriously have regretted what i did.

  7. Honestly, had never heard this before.
Someone like me,after reading this, would always keep this in mind.
    Why take a chance?

  8. I think she should be glad that probably it was her choice of clothes that got him noticed 😛
She’s better off on her own than a cheating partner 🙂

  9. LOL! That was a tongue-in-cheek response alright… In btw, cheating is a overrated concept…just as I find monogamy. Can’t we love more than one person? Why Love Capitalism?

    1. Interesting, Bhavana. Personally, I don’t subscribe to anything other than monogamy – emotional or physical. But each to her/his own. But I’m sure you wouldn’t think it fair if one partner thinks they’re in a monogamous relationship and the other does not clarify that s/he thinks differently!

  10. Whoa what an imagination Corinne 🙂

You surprised me pleasantly with that one… and I also did nt know about that clothes thing.. and am relieved to read it is not true!

  11. Interesting!

I kinda agree…if someone shows fondness for another person, and that individual does not…true feelings do tend to come out especially if the display of affection is happening…

  12. well! good for her!! She got out of the relationship..
I wonder if the clothes gifting thingy is true?! Hmmm…
    Beautifully written 🙂

  13. This one is soooooooooooooooo good Corinne. Loved it! what a weave in so little. And I should buy all my friends clothes, I’ll get to know all their secrets 😛

  14. I’m wondering if I should even add this to this discussion since not to many men have ventured into the discussion. haha

I’m thinking not 🙂 but had a a good laugh reading!

The quicker the experience, the more immediate the lessons. Did this woman ask for the clothes back?? I’m guessing not:)
