Today is Chinese New Year. I realised that 2025 is the Year of the Snake. From printed place mats in Chinese restaurants that displayed the year of our birth and the animal associated with it, I remember I was born in the Year of the Snake. (As youngsters, we were sometimes more interested in the place mats than the food – especially trying to find out who was compatible with us!)
I’m not a believer in astrology. I find it confusing that I’m a Lion (Leo)according to the regular zodiac and a Snake according to the Chinese zodiac. But today, the snake’s symbolism, especially its positive connotations, captivated me.
In 1965, my birth year, I unknowingly began a journey guided by the wisdom, transformation, and resilience attributed to the Snake in Chinese astrology. I believe snakes have deep intuition, are strategic, and can renew themselves by shedding their skin.
Like the snake, I’m a quiet observer. I find significance in life’s changes through observation and reflection. Over the years, I’ve shed old beliefs, outdated dreams, and past fears, similar to how a snake sheds its skin. Each decade of my life has been a cycle of learning, adapting, and emerging stronger. Every phase has been a rebirth of sorts.
What Will This Year Bring?
What will 2025, the Year of the Snake, bring, I wonder? Will it be another transformation? A new chapter? The past has taught me that life’s patterns often repeat with deeper meaning each time. I’m ready for anything this year; life’s thrown enough curveballs my way.

I’m hoping 2025 will be the year I become as wise and strong as a snake. This year, like my birth sign, feels like a homecoming, a return to my roots, but with a clear vision for the future.
To all my fellow Snakes, may this year be one of growth, renewal, and new beginnings. Our time has come again!
Also, Happy Chinese New Year to those who celebrate this day.

Only very recently, I got to know that this is the Chinese year of the Snake! You seem to be on the path to transformation already. May 2025 bring you many more opportunities to thrive in your authenticity and lead you towards your higher goals in life, Corinne!
Thanks for the wishes, Esha. I’m curious to know what your ‘animal’ is. 🙂
I would love to hear about the marvelous transformations you achieve in 2025 at the end of the year, Corinne. I only learned about my Chinese zodiac animal this year, thanks to Akku and his school. They had a chart where we filled in our family members’ birth years to find their animals. Mine is a pig. And like you, my zodiac sign is Leo—a lion. It was fun to discover that all four of us, as a family, have Chinese zodiac animals that aren’t compatible with each other!
Interesting that they did this in school, Vini. About compatibility, how fun! 😉
I love astrology and have read Linda Goodman’s books over and over again as a teenager and a young adult. Both my daughters and I are dragons and I love that. To me the dragon is the most mystical of all creatures and the dreamer and writer in me can identify with this.
All the best for this year. May we see many, many posts from you. It’s always a pleasure and inspiration to read all your posts.
Wow! A house of dragons – and you are fierce and creative women – all three of you!
