Old Script Or New Script?

Old Script or New Script?

This is a reflection on the fact that we sometimes live in the past – allowing it to dictate our lives, sometimes in unseen ways. It’s important for us to re-write the past – to create a new and better script for our present and future.

past and future

The old script goes
Running through my head
Forgotten incidents, but the feelings remain
Memories of loneliness and some of pain
Words that haunt
And unspoken fears
Still control my actions and sometimes bring tears
Old patterns of behaviour
That ruin my life, wreck my health
And bring plenty of strife.
Old ways of relating
That do me more harm
Leave me confused
And filled with alarm.
Guilt, hurt and shame
And finding someone to blame
That’s not the way I want to live ever again.

So I stand up today
Stand up for myself
With Divine Assistance
And angels to help.
I let go of the past
And take up my pen
I’m writing a new script
Starting over again.
New ways of thinking
Loving and living
New ways of receiving
And new ways of giving.
Writing that script
Today I’ll start
Living with freedom and love in my heart.

you are the designer of your own destiny

You can re-write your life – that’s the good news!

  1. yep.. we design our future..
Lovely read Corinne.. Keeping ourselves chained to the past is never conducive.
We write our destiny and its up to us to make sure our present and future are filled with love and laughter 🙂

  2. Very nicely done, Corinne! Everyday we have a new opportunity to rewrite our lives and ourselves through that. If only we can remember that everyday…. 🙂

  3. Absolute truth, Corinne.
You’ve expressed this post so beautifully. The title is just perfect. The verse is lyrical. My eyes are moist as I read this.
Good anthem for all of us!
    Thank you for the motivation.
    Love and hugs!

  4. So completely true. You can choose to live in the past and in regret, or choose happiness and live for today, and tomorrow. Live for the now and and for what can be, not for what was, and what you should have done. Thanks for sharing this. It is a fantastically beautiful reminder that we all need every now and then. 🙂

  5. Love this, Corinne. Inspiring and uplifting. I, too, want to get rid of that old script of regret and guilt to make way for writing a new script of positivity, possibility and hope.

  6. Yes, Corinne, very aptly said. One can get over your past by orchestrating a new life , turning a new leaf and scripting a new chapter in the book. Brooding over past never helps…
I invite you to my posts – specifically on J and M if your time permits :-). Will appreciate that.

  7. This is lovely, flows so well and conveys such an important message. I strongly believe that experiences shape a person, but hanging on to them – whether good or bad can take one’s focus away from enjoying the present. Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

  8. Beautifully written Corinne, my fave lines (today) are ‘I’m writing a new script
Starting over again.’ I am sure a lot of people will relate to this poem

  9. Excellent post!

We often forget that we must look at the present and the future through the windshield/windscreen and at the past only in the small rearview mirror.
If the rearview mirror is made bigger, we will have a very highly restricted view of the present and the future.

  10. The poem is so touching , Corinne. I could identify with every word of it. Even though we know we create our own destiny, we are at times weighed down by what the rest of the world thinks and does. Unless we come out of that mindset, we’ll never ever learn to create the life that we would like to live ! Loved the quote at the end ; that is some talisman we should possess !!

    1. I’m so glad you could identify with this, Sreeja. I like your phrase : create the life we would like to live. Yes the good news is that it is doable!
      Thank you.

  11. What a wonderful poem to read (and print, and keep at my desk!).

So often we live in the same track – the inertia of what we’ve done, or replaying what’s been done to us. Like a movie almost. This is why I want to write, the get that tape to stop playing. Get it out, set it free and be free of it.

    🙂

  12. This was lovely. It takes courage and determination to let go of the past and move on. It takes willpower to live in the now and not worry about tomorrow and to have faith that tomorrow will take care of itself. I love the words to your poem. It is how I feel. Brilliant.♥

  13. Yes, so important to be in charge of own destiny and own happiness.. Not blame others. Also letting the old go and not worry to much about the future.. yes, with you all the way. Loved you post today dear Corinne:-)

  14. Lovely!!! I think it helps to look back so we can savor the good memories and don’t forget the lessons we learnt, but like you’ve expressed so beautifully, we don’t have to live there, it’s just a place to visit (occasionally). The part about old habits wrecking our health is especially true for lazy, non-exercising me – more so since I’m not getting any younger and my bones and metabolism aren’t what they used to be!!

  15. This is precisely why writing my memoir took 10 years. Having to dredge up the ugly past, dwell on it so that it could be shared properly, etc. But then, doing that, I had to deal with the past, realize what I had learned from it, figure out what I could glean from it to help others who may be in the same place. This was incredible therapy — but I wouldn’t want to live there!! 🙂

  16. //Today I’ll start
Living with freedom and love in my heart.// how inspiring is that. I love your poems so much 🙂 they bring a feeling of positiveness 🙂
