Introduced recently – an invitation, a prompt, a linky. Write exactly a 100 words on the prompt and publish it on your blog – a story, a poem, a mini-essay. The linky will be open right up to next Friday, after which I will have a new prompt and a fresh linky.
100 Words On Saturday 3 Prompt : SACRED SPACE/S
What constitutes a sacred space? A building like a temple, a church, a mosque, or a place of pilgrimage like the Holy Land, the holy city of Mecca, the holy city of Varanasi. It could also be a landscape, the sheer natural beauty of which makes us consider it sacred. A sacred space can also be a particular place in your home. Wherever it might be, we must create a sanctuary which we can retreat to when we are stressed or in need of renewal. Personally, I believe we need to retreat into our sacred space everyday to find ourselves.

That’s a lovely image with an apt quote Corinne!
I’m glad our country is full of sacred places, though as the quote says your sacred place lies within you – isn’t it? There are so many it becomes tough to mention them here. 🙂
Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thanks, Harleena. There are so many man made and natural sacred spaces in our country alright. But I do agree with Campbell, we need to find the one within. 🙂
Lovely!!
My sacred place is within me. When I am at peace and my soul content – I feel that I’m in my sacred place.
A few temples – like the Chamundi Devi Temple on top of the Chamundi Hills in Mysore, the small Ganesha Temple close to home are also sacred places because a visit there makes my soul happy 🙂
I really should take this up today! 🙂
Finally our sacred space, our centre, is within us, Pixie. As you say, some places add to our feeling of soul-happiness. Looking forward to your take on this.
Hi Corinne,
I think if we are up for it we can find the peace or sacred space everywhere 🙂 It’s our mind, right?
Well, I can think of few right now ~ Mother Nature (Mostly I love to observe anything), My Home, Temple
Mother Nature always amaze me and I’m a crazy fan of her 🙂 The beauty and calmness of Nature always brings me the peace. Sometimes she’s not calm, but yet I feel it. If I feel troubled or confused I’d love to take a look at her else meditation comes when I can’t go out.
There’s no place like my sweet little home 🙂 Sometimes I feel better go out, but when I’m out I feel I was wrong. Never been to a Mosque, Church or Hindu Temple though I’ve seen ’em, but go to Buddhist temple as I’ve been following the religion. I really admire the calmness I find there and also, yet Mother Nature is very close with it.
Cheers…
You’re right, Mayura. Our minds are the perfect temple, but a little bit of ‘atmosphere’ around doesn’t hurt, don’t you think? Taking in the beauty of Nature is always a good thing to centre us and keep us grounded.
I’ve visited Buddhist temples in Hong Kong and the monasteries in Nepal and Sikkim. I’ve been to Hindu temples, a synagogue and a Sikh Gurudwara besides churches of various types and in various countries. I do believe that whatever be our religion and openness to other forms of worship enriches our own beliefs.
I love your 100 words about Sacred Space(s), Corinne! There are many places for me, but I will try to do the 100, too, and link here.
Blessings and love!
Thanks, Martha. At some point I will write a longer post on this subject. For now, I look forward to your 100 words on it. 🙂
My sacred place in that case would be the shower! At least, I am assured complete privacy and solitude there!! 😛
I know what you mean, Roshni. Some of my best thoughts and ideas come to me in the shower! 🙂
Love this concept Corraine :)…Should I post the link to my article here ?
Thanks, Sri. Looking forward to your post. When you write it, link it here – by adding it to the little froggy (reads ‘add your link’) at the end of the post.
I agree with all the above comments there are many places we can claim as our scared place but I do believe that we can find solitude where ever we find some peace quite and happiness in today’s busy lifestyle. I sometimes find solitude while baking, sometimes while reading an interesting book, every time I sit with a cup of tea and write something like this comment but nothing beats the way nature becomes truly magical when monsoon arrives. It is true my country is blessed with many sacred places but in the monsoon season when nature turns a fresh clean and green page every inch becomes sacred.
Thanks for sharing, Yamini. We can find sacred spaces in our daily routine and I’m glad you do. The freshness that monsoons bring after a long, hot summer is truly beautiful.
I would say the room where I work and my bedroom. Apart from these, I can sit in any corner even in a bookstore with a book essentially a.y place where I am alone to be with myself.
Thanks for sharing, Rachna. Yes, it’s important to make the time and space and to be with oneself.
Yes, that is what I think. Perception is such a key factor in our lives and a small place in our homes too can be sacred spaces. Well said!
An added advantage is I’m listening to ‘Another day in Paradise’ on your blog. Ah, just love that song and now your blog has become a sacred space 🙂
Aditya
Thanks for coming by, Aditya. We can find our sacred spaces anywhere – but it’s important that we do! I’m so glad you liked the music – you’re the first one who mentioned it! 🙂
Looking forward to connecting more.
Great idea and topic! My sacred space is the place where I have my morning devotions and quiet time each morning. In great weather that is the screened porch on my house and during the winter it is a special chair where I can mediate, pray and read something inspirational in the morning. Blessings to you!!
It’s been a while since we’ve been in touch, Lynne. Thanks for dropping by. I can picture you sitting in your sacred space every morning! 🙂
Great prompt…you know it is rather difficult to limit a prose post to 100 words and also extend a poem to 100 words.
Thanks, Janu. You’ve been doing a good job so far! 🙂
Corinne, It is a beautiful prompt and makes one think about important things in life. I will try and write something and link it here, though what I want to say is already been said here.
Thanks, Sulekha. I’m sure you’ll find a great way to respond. 🙂
My most sacred place is by the creek near my cabin. There is one spot in particular that I am drawn to. I like to sit there and just watch.
My sacred spot, hmmm, love this. You explain very succinctly what a sacred place is. Thank you.
I am blogging again Corinne thanks to you 😛
My sacred space has no physical presence It exists within me. A place where I retreat to when I want to rejuvenate myself !
I just wrote about it and added the link 😛
It could be because of the frequent travelling or changing of “houses” that I have no sacred space in any place. For me it exists within me with my God where I can retreat to anytime, anywhere I want and just unwind myself. 🙂
From next week on I will also participate in this, seems like an interesting thing!
<3 it
Great concept Corinne. Enjoyed participating in it.
I agree that it’s important to be able to retreat to a sacred place daily. Even if it is within yourself while engaging in a practice that centers you. I have a couple of sacred places, one being the forest near us. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to go there that often. Another is a corner in my room where I chant and meditate. It isn’t fancy, but when I’m there practicing my spiritual disciplines, all feels well with my soul.
