Maybe Grace Is Green | Five Minute Friday

I read the phrase ‘maybe grace is green’ somewhere recently and when I saw that Kate’s prompt this Friday was ‘green’ I had to use the phrase in response.

Maybe Grace Is Green

She wonders how she’ll go on
How will she pay the bills?
Who will look after the children
While she stays to watch over
Her husband in a coma.
Then she sees it.
A young tree, still green
Swaying in the wind,
And yet now giving in,
A reminder of grace
Grace that will keep her going
Despite the storm.

How can I live without her
He wonders
As he kneels at her grave,
Grief and despair eating into him.
Can he be Mom and Dad to his children?
How will their family go on
When the heart of it had gone?
Then he sees it.
A small green shoot pushing through the ground
Growing despite the dry earth
A hopeful reminder that life goes on
That grace abounds
“May grace is green,” he whispers to himself.

The terrible pain she felt
A few minutes ago, has gone
Now she feels nothing but fear.
Has her heart stopped beating?
What will become of her?
She is being gently being carried away
In the distance she sees a light
She feels herself being drawn towards it
Then in the distance she spots a green door
Is this the door to heaven?
What is behind the door?
As she walks towards it
She feels her fear melt away.
“Maybe Grace is green,” she whispers to herself.
