Color Personality? I’m trying to recall exactly how this topic came to mind.
Ah, yes, now I remember. I was playing around with a blog and suddenly asked José what color he associated with me. He said ‘green’ and couldn’t tell me why he thought so. Then I asked Vidya, who said ‘white’. I thought I was a ‘blue’. And there began my search to find my color and to see the connection with my personality.
What color are you? asked Quizony and off I went to find out. However, I found the questions were slightly culturally off for an Indian. According to them, the answer is ‘pink’ and here’s what it says about me: Your motto is Go, Go, Go! But you also know how to relax and recharge your batteries for the next big thing. You like to work hard, play hard, and nap hard. Hmmm…really? I don’t think so.
I tried the Color Quiz and wasn’t quite satisfied with what they had to say about me either. I know I’m pretty smart at working out these psychometric tests, so I’m not sure I was being completely honest when I did them. Too smart for my own good, it seems!
But as with many things I think about with regard to psychology, I found myself drawn into researching and reading more about the connection between our color and our personality. I found that there are several color theories around and that this has been a subject of interest for a very long time. For the first time I read about studies by Faber Birren, who in 1961 publication, “Creative Colour: A Dynamic Approach for Artists and Designers“, told us that people associate color with other senses. He wrote, “Good smelling colors are pink, lilac, orchid, cool green, aqua blue,” This association of one sense with another is known as synaesthesia. In another work, “Color Psychology And Color Therapy: A Factual Study Of The Influence Of Color On Human Life
“, Birren informed us that emotionally responsive people react to color and introverts tend to be unresponsive to color!
Pyschologists have also researched the effects of colors on moods and behaviour and found that colors might have contradictory effects. So while we might think that green will have a soothing effect – it only does that on walls, etc. When it is used to illuminate the human body, it seems to have a repulsive effect!
Also there is such a thing as chromotherapy – an alternative medicine method, practiced for centuries and across several cultures. I can see that I have plenty of catching up to do on this subject that has just begun to interest me! ;
But let me get back to what I started out with….
What is your color personality?
Honestly, I couldn’t quite find mine, so I decided to use this article – Favorite Color Reveals Personality Type to find out why I could be thought of as being green, white or blue.
Green : You are sure to be constant in your ways, persevering, sensible and respectable. You have a good balance. Aha, now I know why José thought I was green.
White : Is not covered in the article! Vidya, now I know what you think of me!
Blue – the color I thought might be associated with me seems quite true – except for the part about making money: You want a serene world and a calm life and you want your affairs to be orderly and neat. An introvert, you are deliberate, introspective, but perhaps not too intellectual. Steady and a hard worker, you will probably be successful and make a lot of money. Though you have a tendency to be egotistical and opinionated, you know how to accept responsibility and obligation. You are sensitive to others and have a secure hold on your emotions.
What color do you associate with your personality?
This post is written for the letter C for the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge 2014. José and I are undertaking the Challenge on our blog, From 7Eight too.

I think I am all the colors at different points of time 😛
Anyway, nice article about discovering your character type through chromotherapy 😀
You’re a rainbow, huh? 😉
I think my personality is still evolving asi love red, purple, orange and yellow and find bits and pieces from each applying to me! 🙂
Interesting, PB. 🙂
I think blue is me. Specially after the nice thins I read! Quizony said so too and so does Lida Goodman. That should be testimony enough.
You do seem to be a blue too, Tulika! 🙂
*Things* *Linda*… That’s what comes of typing with one hand with your morning cup of tea in the other!
As long as you enjoyed the tea! I understood anyway. 😉
I still love the color green! Green is always signalling to go! And that’s my life perspective…go on going despite all the odds! Great post!
Hmmm…interesting. Wondering what colour Anu associates with you? 🙂
Thank u so much for the colourful post, Corinne 🙂 We all love being colours, don’t we ! I was a big time Pink fan, but the preference changed ( and keeps changing ) with age, now I love blues and yellows ! I guess we all have a little bit of everything in us 🙂
Yes, Sreeja. But I’m wondering what color your associate with yourself or others associate with you. I think you’re a ‘white’. 🙂
Interesting post!
My favourite colours:
For shirts: Sky blue or white, but my ‘favouritest’ is a lemon yellow shirt.
For trousers: Dark grey, dark blue
Icecream: Dark chocolate (the flavour and the colour)
Liquid beverages: Amber
Food: multi-coloured, ‘tandoori red’
etc., etc. .. based on colours, I must be a multiple split personality!
You certainly are a colorful person, Pro! 🙂
Tandoori red, huh?
Well, my favourite colour is red, but I would say my personality is multi-coloured, not monotone. Interesting read! 🙂
I would have guessed red for you, Debbie, from your website. But I’m sure you are a woman of many colors. 🙂
Good post. As I was reading I was sure I was a Green then the Blue sounding just who I am… I may have more colours within my personality. 🙂
Thanks, Archana. I guess we all have several colors.
Blue sounds a lot like you Corinne. What colour do you associate me with? Curious to know
Purple, naturally, Bhavya! 🙂
BTW I would assocaite u with white tooo.. the color of peace n serenity!
Then you really don’t know me, do you? What’s your color, Meena? 🙂
Didn’t know about color personality ..
I came to know about color therapy in Rochie Rana’s show in meow fm.. haven’t explored any further.. It seems interesting..
I’m not familiar with that show, but it must have been inter sting.
Most people tell me I’m the colour purple. I like it too and yellow, green and blue.
Now I need to go and check what purple means, Suzy.
hehe corinne i think am blue too except the part about money making!! same pinch 😉 enjoued reading this 🙂
Blue? 🙂 Glad you enjoyed this.
Good post. Such analyses are fun to do. Earlier I used to like pink (dunno why so many girls/ women like pink), then blue. Now, I like all colours.
Thanks, Prathima. I’m glad you enjoyed this.
I think I’m the color blue…I don’t know the reason why but I always felt drawn to that…And sometimes I’m red with anger and irritation…and there are also times when I’m black with dislike towards people who hurt me…Ya I guess that’s what my colours are in my view! 🙂
I’m sure the colors do change with our moods, Naba. I wish someone could tell us exactly what color we are!
You know I was as fascinated with color therapy a few years ago. Part of this is Aura reading. The color of your aura describes you and your personality. Auras change over a period of time, as do you. And people with auras which complement each other generally end up being good friends 🙂
That said, I found a quiz in Davidoff.com which worked for me 🙂
Thanks for sharing, Gauri. I’ve heard of auras as part of Rekhi healing. Very interesting, isn’t it? Checking out the site you mentioned. 🙂
Now this has got me thinking what color am I?? Lovely post! And I think you are Turquoise – both blue and green! 🙂 🙂 Lv
Ha ha…turquoise? I’m thinking a pastel green for you! 🙂
Great post! I love earthy, rich colours. But after reading the personality traits associated with them … well, load of rubbish! Then I don’t really think of myself as a colour. However, never will wear red, it makes me feel angry for some reason. Maybe I was a bull in a past life? 😉
I love earthy colors too. I’m not sure how scientific those quizzes are! 😉
A bull, huh? 🙂
I do find that the colours I wear are a good indication of my mental state on the day. That said, I can also now understand why you see so much of Black on the London Tube in winter. 🙂
I loved what you said about Black on the London Tube. They must wear almost all year around, no? 😉
I thought i was blue but the description doesn’t add up. You do seem like a green to me.
Food for thought here Corinne.
Incidentally I also posted on color today but a different kind.
I too will find my color:)
Good luck with finding your color, Inderpreet.
Hmm, I must have a think about this. I know what my favourite colour is, though I’m not sure it necessarily expresses me as much as I just like it (it’s purple.) I could say that bright, jewel tones probably express me, I think, but am not sure I could narrow it down further than that… food for thought, thanks!
Bright, jewel tones sound lovely, Claire. I know I’m not going to let this new interest go until I find ‘my’ color! 🙂
Corinne, this is a very sweet post. I also like blue. May be that is the reason that I have several blue dresses. I know people who wear colors according to the day of the week. Monday—White
Tuesday—Orange
Wednesday—Green
Thursday—-Blue
Friday—-Yellow
Saturday== Black
Sunday—–Any color
Ha ha…I had no ideas that certain colors are associated with days of the week!
I took that ‘which color are you?’ test and it said yellow. But Corinne I think I am multicolored 🙂
Yellow and ‘sunshiney’, Jas? Could be right, don’t you think? 🙂
I think i am blue,
I am so drawn towards the colour and I think colour white can be associated with you for that warm and affectionate smile you have…
Another blue? Thanks, Sitara. 🙂
I find blue extremely peaceful and relaxing 🙂 and sometimes light yellow too 🙂 wonderful post 😀
But I would associate a much more vivid color with you, Rajlakshmi. 🙂
My fav is black…. and I love blue, yellow, purple and almost evry color ….so which is associated with me…. Clueless! 😉
It’s not what color you like, Sheethal. I’m thinking a sunny yellow for you! 🙂
My colour is blue (or yellow). I think.
Two very different colors, I’m thinking! 🙂
I am always drawn towards color blue, specifically the sky blue shade except for the money making part. Looks like I can still hope for that from the description :-).
Thanks for sharing, Jayanta.
Have you heard of the Luscher color test? The book lays out quite a bit on color theory and also has a color test. I did mine long ago, so don’t remember what color I was, but I remember the results were very accurate for me.
Off to check on the Luscher Color Test. Thanks for sharing.
I think my “color” has changed as I have aged. I would say I am “red” on most days. Quite thought provoking post! ♥
I can see what you say about colors changing, Kathy! Red? Hmmmm
A very interesting take on the prompt and gonna test myself. Love the post, Corinne:0
Glad you enjoyed, Vishal.
I took the Color Quiz you linked and I sounded like a seriously disturbed individual. It says:
Your Actual Problem
“Feeling tension and stress brought on by situations which are out of her control, leaves her feeling helpless, anxious, and in adequate. In order to build her self-esteem back up, she looks to others for recognition, respect, and encouragement. This can be a problem since she tends to blame others for her shortcomings. Searching for solutions that are geared toward her needs and self-consciousness.”
Phew! I know it’s not me, but how the heck did I end up with that assessment? LOL!
Haha…I hope you had fun though, Damaria. You certainly aren’t the color you came up with on that quiz! 😉
Quite a colourful post, Corinne! And thought-provoking too! I too believe that colours carry deeper significance than just their sensory appeal. It could also be that the particular colours we may be drawn to at different points in our lives say something about what aspect(s) of our personality are becoming more prominent, or what aspects do we value more at that point in time…By the way, I also read somewhere that Blue is supposed to be the colour signifying spiritual consciousness. So you are right on, girl 🙂
You’re very right, Beloo. There’s a lot more to color than we realize on the surface.
Thank you for your lovely comment.
I would say, I am a rainbow 🙂
I would agree, Latha! 😉
In college, I studied Psychology and when we used to do the psychometric tests, I always outwitted the hidden lie-detectors in them 😉
This is a very fascinating post and I am trying to imagine what colour I would be. I am tempted to compare this with the concept of auras and what colours we naturally emit when we pass through different emotional stages in our lives. Coming to you, I think the colour red suits you since it indicates passion, at least in my mind 🙂
Psychometric tests are dangerous that way, Shailaja.
Thanks for the compliment, but I’m wondering if you’ve come up a color for yourself.
Sigh, no, Corinne. As of now, if you can come up with a colour for pain, I guess that will suit me 😉
Oooh, I’ll play! So before clicking on the link, my favorite color is purple, followed by a teal? Let’s hope they have it! Ok let me look!
PURPLE – Two types of people like purple. The first is sensitive, with deep insight, temperamental and creative with meaningful things to do and passionate devotion to them. The second type admires artists, mystics and unique people. This type feels there should be gentility, courtesy and affection everywhere, and no war, disease or poverty.
TOTALLY me… next up….
BLUE-GREEN – A fastidious person, you have good taste, dress well and probably are a connoisseur of good food and wine. You are poised and apparently self-controlled though inside you may feel tense. You would perish without love and admiration.
The woman who likes this hue has a remarkable sense of fashion, is vain, mysterious – and ever charming, with exception appeal to men.
Definitely more of a purple gal! So fun!
You are so fun, Cristina. I would have definitely put you down as a purple! ♥
My favorite colors are Lilac, Orange, Black and Red. Sometimes the color of a well-fitting dress becomes my favorite, other times I associate happy memories with a color that was around that day. My most fav is Orange 🙂 Lovely article, will definitely read the hyper-linked posts too.
I’m thinking of you as being a pastel color. I wonder what orange signifies. When you have the time, do look at those links. They’re fun!
Hi,
Its difficult for me to choose only one color. I really like all of them, never come across the one I don’t !
It’s not about the color you like, Ananya, but the one that people associate with you.
I was going to say Maroon, but that wasn’t on the list, so I went with my second option: Brown. From the Weekly World News link you provided:
BROWN – You are steady in your ways, persistent and tenacious. Conscientious in all you do, you are also obstinate and more likely to accept than to give. You also tend to be frugal. But you have an ageless quality and never seem to change.
Though your brain is not lightning quick, you do have the ability to think things through. You assume responsibilities, are shrewd, rational and sensible. You have no time for anything fanciful, but you are very sensuous.
Not sure if I buy that or not. 😛
Ha ha..you certainly don’t sound ‘brown’, Loni. But I hope you had fun trying this out.
I enjoyed this post, thank you very much. 🙂 I’m a sucker for the color tests. Since I’m too lazy to analyze myself, I take the tests to find out how I’m doing. They’re usually spot on, especially when I’m honest about my choices.
Glad you enjoyed it, Su-siee! 🙂
Good post. I haven’t taken the test, but as I read this I thought that my husband would probably say pink because I’m drawn to various shades of pink and wear it often enough for him to comment on it. I feel good when I wear it and sometimes people compliment me, but whether it describes my personality, I can’t say. Right now I’m into coral for clothes and accents for the same reasons.
Glad you enjoyed it, Dorothy. I wonder why we like particular colors too. I love coral – although as you can see from my blog, it’s maroon!
Great post! I enjoyed it very much. I found my color to be pink, but I have to say that everyone have a bit of every color in them. Good luck with the A to Z blogging Challenge. I’m participating too! #theawsomedish
So glad you enjoyed it, Patience. A bit of every color, you say? That’s something to think about.
Good luck with the challenge too!
I’m not sure what colour my personality it but I like yellow and gold..not sure what that means!!
I don’t think it’s about the color we like, Amelia. I’m not so hot on blue – but it seems to describe me! 😉
i think i am blue… may be being called ‘white’ is the best compliment ever…since it is the mixture of all colors..so versatile..
If being called ‘white’ is a compliment, Vidya paid me one in her comment! 😉
We’re both blue, it seems! 🙂
Very interesting. I must do a quick survey of what color people associate with me. Hmm.
And as for what I think of you, all I know is I love you. That transcends all colors. As Pratikshya so nicely put it – white is the best compliment 😉 an so versatile!
Great pick for C! ♥
Thanks, Vidya! I’m smiling here.
i have no idea i think every colour is reflected in my personality at some time in my life
That’s interesting! You’re a rainbow! 🙂
I associate you with white and blue. No specific reason though.
I am different shades at different times. Being a Leo, yellow suits me well. But that is cosmetic. I think it is far more complex. What I know is that I am not fiery red!
Thanks, Alka. If yellow is for Leos, it’s for me too! 🙂
I had tried the quiz from Quizony a few days ago and it revealed my colour to be Pink too! I so agree about the nap hard part! 😀
Though my fav colour is Green! 🙂
Pink! You do need to blog less and nap more, no? 😉
After reading your post I did the quiz and found my color “pink…”
Personally i like blue as it symbolizes clarity…
Interesting post…
Pink? Hmmm..must go off and see what it means. Glad you liked it, Sheela.
What an interesting question!! Those who do know me and my quirky email address from the last 5 years, 😛 😛 and that means YOU, Corinne, would be easyyyyyyyyyyyyy guessing what colour I am. And yes, it’s white white whiiiiiiiiiiite all the way!
My favourite color is pink, but white is what I am.. everything that stands true for while stands true for me.
Yes, I would have guessed white for you, P. 🙂
Hi . I really loved your post…Colors are always inviting and mysterious. Sometimes, I am drawn towards orange, sometimes to red. At other times, it is white or blue….
Happy Blogging A to Z…
So glad you liked it, Shail. Yes, colors are more mysterious than I realized, it seems!
I fall under Red, Yellow, Pink…. 🙂 Thanks for a beautiful post 🙂
Hmmm…
I think I like the idea of being a different colour at different times!! 😀
then, I don’t have to confine myself to a single colour or type of personality! 😉
