I’m Sorry

to those with no peace… (please read)“I’m sorry. I know I have done something terribly wrong,”  I said.

“I forgive you,” He said.

“I can’t forgive myself.  How can you forgive me? ” I said.

“I always do.” he answered. ” I don’t keep a record of rights and wrong, you know?”

“You don’t?” I said, incredulously. “I was always told you did. In fact, I was always told you would punish me for my mistakes.”

“Bad press!” he smiled. ” Unfortunately, people project their behaviour onto  me. I love you, so where’s the question of punishment?”

“I don’t know how to thank you.” I cried.

“Remember, my deep love for you and abide in it. My grace is sufficient for you.”  He said.

Do you believe in a God who punishes us or a God who forgives us?

I believe in a God that is forgiving, not punishing. I thank Him for His Grace!!

Now, that’s a confusing question, Corinne.

As of now, I don’t know 🙂 One part of my mind says that there is God and he is forgiving (And there is another part saying that he is cruel too). Then there is another part that doesn’t believe in the existence of good (basic human intellectual form – he always looks for “logic” – needs to see God to believe the existence).

But, if God does exist, I believe that he is forgiving and at the same time punishes us for our mistakes (Well, he is not cruel or anything, but I believe he does punish).

Thanks for this post Corinne. Its beautiful ! I think God forgives us ! I treat him as a parent and don’t parents always love and forgive us ! I am not scared at him at all .. What I scared of is letting his down .. and I try not to do that !

Thank you for sharing, Ruchira. Yes, I too love the parent-child analogy for God. I have learned not to fear God – but to love Him and trust Him to lead me.

Oh, we are so in need of grace, and we all fall short of the glory that is God’s. May He take our faults and forgive them and renew us in the right and righteous spirit.
Inspirational song, Corinne, to remind us all that we need His grace before we can take a step forward . . . May we ever take it with a leap of faith!
    Love and blessings always!

Ever in need of grace, we are, Martha, and ever grateful that it’s available in full measure – if we only claim it. He forgives and we are redeemed! Love and blessings to you too, my friend. ♥

I believe in a merciful and loving God. My sins and faults make me think of our fragility and weaknesses as humans but at the same time they allow me to see God’s greatness and love. His love has more weight above anything else…

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 18, 2012

Indeed, Melissa, God’s love outweighs our own weaknesses and give us the strength to move past our sins towards Grace. ♥

  6. Irene Irene October 17, 2012

I believe in a forgiving and loving God, Corinne. I don’t know how many times I failed Him yet He continues to shower me with His blessings. As for the “punishment,” I think that is a consequence of our sin and our human limitations. 🙂

Thank you for this inspiring post and for the touching video. God bless you always ❤❤❤ 🙂

Aren’t we blessed to have know the forgiveness of God, Irene. That is what sustains me and keeps me from being consumed by guilt or depression. I can’t undo all the wrongs I have done – but I know I’m forgiven and therein lies the beauty of God’s immeasurable love for us.

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 17, 2012

Thanks, Diana. A forgiving God can’t punish. 🙂 However, there are always consequences of our actions, but from my experience, we don’t always pay!

Beautiful post Corinne, yes I do believe in Him and that too blindly!!

I would jump off a cliff if He asked to as it is said – have faith either He will be standing below to catch you or He will give you wings to fly!

I have done a transcription on Forgiveness for someone and the most beautiful line I remember was that person saying that Jesus has forgiven in Bible and it shows that He does that with us too everytime 🙂

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 17, 2012

Wow! That’s a strong statement of faith, Privy. God does forgive – and that’s the best message we can get and truly believe and experience.

FABULOUS! Why can’t I type just one word? I had to come back 🙁

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 17, 2012

Thank you. Sorry about the one word business -that CommentLuv’s way of lowering spam 😉

I believe God is loving and forgiving, when we ask for forgiveness. I believe the trials in our lives are either brought on by our own poor decisions or as a means to learn and grow stronger. Not punishments. I don’t believe God wants us to suffer, but rather to gain strength and learn.

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 17, 2012

You said that so well, Jo. Yes, I too believe that God never wants us to suffer!

  12. Dangerous Linda Dangerous Linda October 17, 2012

It must be a God who forgives because I have been so BADDDDDDDDD and still I find JOY & LOVE in my Life — what else could explain this???

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 17, 2012

Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean, Linda. I’ve been bad too and I know what forgiveness, love and joy are. So, I finally got the idea – that God is forgiving! 🙂

  13. janu janu October 17, 2012

I think the most non-judgmental person in the whole universe is God. Maybe he uses some tactics for us to learn and overcome our short comings but, never punishes. All that we were, we are, and we will be….is a sum of our choices.

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 17, 2012

Oh, I completely agree, Janaki. We do face the consequences of our actions – but it doesn’t take away from God’s forgiveness.

  14. Harleena Singh Harleena Singh October 17, 2012

    Interesting question Corinne!

I believe in God, and I think he is all forgiving. We are punished because of the deeds we do. If he punishes us, it is for our own good and to make us better humans. Each of his so called punishments are ways to make us realize our mistakes – isn’t it? So, even though he might punish us, he forgives us too. 🙂

Thanks for sharing and making us think on this…loved the video. 🙂

    • Corinne Rodrigues Corinne Rodrigues October 17, 2012

I too believe in an all forgiving God, Harleena. I think what we see as ‘punishment’ might be the natural consequence of our actions. Because if we were getting punishment then I’d be long gone by now! 😉
Glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve been reluctant to share videos since I moved to WP, but I’m inspired by you to do so. ♥
