Authenticity - Living A Principle Driven Life

Never Enough

It was only yesterday that I watched Loren Allred performing the song Never Enough on Britian’s Got Talent. If you’re inclined to watch her performance, I’ve added the video below – I’d encourage you to watch it.

Never Enough

This is not about a singer giving a fantastic performance at a talent show. That she got the golden buzzer for a her performance too is not the story.

It’s much more than that.

Loren Allred actually performed the RIAA multi-platinum song “Never Enough” from the Oscar nominated and Grammy award winning “The Greatest Showman” soundtrack and film in 2017. She was the voice and not the actress. No one connected this song to her!

She sang for the movie but didn’t have the confidence to actually own this fantastic performance and show herself, until April 2022. As she said, “I was more comfortable singing behind the scenes.”

Though the lyrics of the song are actually about something else, the title caught my attention.

I began to think about how often we feel like we’re never enough. We are comfortable ‘behind the scences’. How often we hide our light, because we’re afraid. We allow our past hurts, and put downs from others, to dictate. Afraid to let our whole, real self be revealed to the world.

I Am Enough

I feel like I'm never enough
Hiding behind my masks
Cringing in the darkness
Afraid of my own light
Scared that the world
Is not ready for the real me.

Today I recommit myself
To being real, to being me.
I will emerge from the shadows
Shining my light
For this is what the world needs
Because I am enough.

Do not allow others to diminish your light due to their own fears and insecurities. Instead, let your light shine so brightly, that you illuminate a pathway for others to find their way out of the darkness!” – Dr. Stacey A. Maxwell, Peace Love Wings

Today I’m focusing on the principle of authenticity and asking you to join me.
Take a look back into your lives to the point when you decided that who you were was not enough? What happened? How can you re-write this script and reclaim your real self? Let’s pray for the grace we need to do let our light shine for the world to see.

In October, I started writing a series called 31 Days about Living A Principle Driven Life. Since I wasn’t able to complete it then, I’m doing so now. You can follow my posts here.

  1. “How often we feel like we’re never enough” – this resonated with me. “Let’s pray for the grace we need to do let our light shine for the world to see” – Amen. Thank you for this post!
