Something came up in my Facebook timeline today that got writing this. It was a video of a Muslim Imam talking about why he had converted to Catholicism. There was a time when I might have been excited about this because I’m Catholic too. But now, I don’t really care. I’m sure the man had his reasons. And I hope he’s happy with his choice. There’s already too much focus on religion and it’s largely what is causing so much violence in the world today.
Let’s Live and Let Live
When I say, let’s live and let live, I don’t mean that we should be disinterested in other people’s beliefs. No, rather that we should actively try to understand what they believe in and appreciate the many ways we can reach the Divine.
Yes, there is evil around us. That evil is not other religions and beliefs. No, it is us being inhuman – forgetting our common humanity. Evil is failing to reach out to others. Evil is not allowing another to be themselves – to live her life the way she was meant to.
If my religious beliefs and practices make me distrustful of the beliefs of others, if I’m constantly seeing the Devil all around, if I’m living a life of fear and feeling insecure, then it is time for me to question my beliefs. All that really matters is that we’re living by the eternal law of Love.
“Religion is like a pair of shoes…..Find one that fits for you, but don’t make me wear your shoes.”
